Swede Film: Saw One
We were challenged to film a swede film of Saw One. A Swede film is a cheap remake of one of the scenes. Myself and my group chose to go with Saw, doing a cheap version of the official trailer. We had to time manage ourselves to hit the deadline of the showing time, booking all equipment needed and booking the room to film in.
We had to make one of the traps called the "Reverse Bear Trap" out of cardboard, wires and much more.
Although a cheap version, it looked good in video as we used a dark set like from the trailer. This probably was the most difficult task we had along with getting the scene correct and managing to keep the trap on Rhino's head. Eventually we used masking tape to hold the mask to her face so it didn't fall off, sticking the tape onto a flat cap we put on Rhino's head.
Our setup was a slider, two cameras, two large spotlights for lighting and a tripod. Most was recorded by hand but certain sections needed the slider and the tripod to steady them out and to make them look more like the scene we were remaking. For the flashing lights we used two mobile phones and turning the flash on and off very quickly to give the affect of the flickering lights from the scene.
My group were a excellent group, working together and sharing ideas from day one. We paid attention to each other and all played parts of each role needed for our remake of Saw. We all worked together during filming as well, taking our roles seriously. Two of the Girls, Sophie and Lynsey, worked on the lighting and some of the cameras. Sophie did most of the camerawork throughout, especially the scenes that spun around Rhino. Rhino was acting and my job was to check that she was safe and comfortable during filming. I also had to direct her actions to capture the scene and how the person moves in the trailer and to check the lighting on the cameras. Leo helped to directed, making sure everything was in time when we recorded to the scene.
Overall, I have learnt that the teamwork was the most important trait to have during filming to make sure everything went smoothly, especially with such a short deadline of three days. Our video was placed 2nd out of 15.
