Group Music Video- Never Gonna Give You Up: Rick Astley
Yesterday, we created a music video for Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. We were challenged to create a music video in our class group, fifteen of us working together.
We had to come up with a video idea, which took us longer than expected, and turned out to be a party themed music video. It took us a long time because we couldn't decide on a song and we had to avoid songs with swearing and when we did find a song, others disliked the song and wouldn't make a music video for it. Another problem was the person lip syncing the song had to know the lyrics to the song to be able to sing along to the video. Some of us went out to get props while the rest of us set up the studio, either managing cameras, lighting, directing or being on camera. We also had to create our own budget to pay for the props used in the video.
Creating the music video took longer than we expected as more people had to be organised on where they were and what their role was because everyone had to contribute to the music video. Some people didn't know what they were doing even after being told by the director and it took a while to set up the studio with props and to get the lights to how the group wanted them to look for the video. Many of us also didn't have a lot to do as a group took charge and wouldn't allow any of us to help out, such as we had to sit at a table the whole time they set up the cameras and lighting which didn't let us contribute to the music video at all apart from being in it. Cameras also did mess up and we had to switch them out at the last second. Our problem as a group was mostly time management because some lacked behind.
At the end of the day, we only did one run through although we should have done another take. Our planning didn't go smoothly and we had a few problems with cameras and lighting but we did manage to come out with a visually interesting music video. What I have learnt is that planning has to be well organised to make the shoot for the video go smoothly. This lets me know to plan ahead for our final music video.
